Welcome to our Dashiell Family History!

de Chiel is the French form of one of our family surnames Dashiell. It morphed generally from Chel to de Chiel in France, then to deShiel, Da Shiel, and, finally, Dashiell, when our ancestors emigrated to Scotland and then to colonial Virginia and Maryland from the Lyonnaise area of France which lies today in the Rhone department of the Rhone-Alpes region. One ancestral homeland lies near the town of Chazay d'Azergues NW of Lyon, and it included the seigneuries of Tredos, Morancé, and Beaulieu. Another area they lived in was Chanves (AKA Chanvas) en Bugey (between Meximieux and Lagnieu or Vaux-en-Bugey) NE of Lyon. Enjoy :)
